Jodie's Story

I'm a 38-year-old mamma of 4 beautiful children! Fitness has been a huge part of my life as far back as I can remember. I am a qualified PT and GP referral instructor, I work for the council as a fitness instructor. I joined the Army when I was 16 and fought for my country in Iraq at the age of 18.

Before taking bodybuilding seriously I was your typical cardio bunny, I'd spend hours exercising and eating very little. I was skinny but wobbly! Fast forward to the 1st lockdown and suffering from an injury all exercising went out the window. I was drinking in excess, fed up, and not happy with the way I felt and looked. As soon as the gyms opened I started taking lifting seriously and focusing on fueling my body correctly. I built a community of like-minded women and that's where my journey to competing started. Resistance training fixed my injury and for the 1st time in over a year, I was able to stop taking strong pain meds for good!

Fast forward to June 2021, I competed for the 1st time as a bikini athlete with PCA. I didn't place in that show but I had caught the competing bug. A few weeks later I completed again with PCA where I came 3rd and secured a place in the British finals.

Last year I did my last show as a bikini athlete with the PCA where I came 1st. I'd outgrown the bikini category and tried my hand at competing as a wellness masters athlete with 2bros and that's where I felt I truly belonged. I gained my British title and haven't looked back since. I decided to take a long off-season to grow into my new category and so far it's been one hell of an amazing journey. The plan is to step back on stage in October with the PCA as a wellness masters athlete this time and see how it goes from there.

It's not always easy fitting training around a big family and work but it's 100% worth it. This journey has taught me so much about myself and helped me mentally too. Bodybuilding is my therapy and my time which I think is important. I've lost friends on this crazy journey (not everyone understands it) but I've gained the best support network and I have the best friends a girl can ask for. Watch this space...
